Share a small trick of Firefox. Sometimes on Firefox, we could not visit a page, it apparently will show an error page. It is normal to us.
But some of you might prefer an alert pop up than an error page. So, just in your firefox config (type about:config on the address bar and enter). Search for browser.xul.error_pages.enabled set it False for a pop up.
The reason of popup is because it is much faster and lesser memory consumption for a page rendering. However, it will become annoying if there are plenty alert boxes pop up at the same time.
One feature that most of the Linux Skype users are waiting for is the video calls. And now it will be on Linux Skype 2.0. If you used Windows Skype before, you will find that there are quite a numbers of missing features on the Linux version. The Linux version is just terribly a plain version comes with only chatting and voice call functions.
On version 2.0, you not only can experience the great sound quality of Skype, you also set up video call with anyone in your contact list. However, you will need to have video card driver with Xv support.

After some troubleshoot, by running “compiz” in the terminal, I finally got myself a reason why I could not run it.

For most of the Windows user, the DOS command interface looks like a black hole to them. Their first thoughts are possibly - how can someone can stand of only dull text environment? On Linux, it is very usual to see users customize or compile application in the terminal.
To have a desktop terminal not necessary just to hide the terminal away from Windows users but actually a very convenient method to pin the terminal on to your desktop.
Here I want to share a way to embed the terminal to your desktop by using a software called Devil’s Pie. Devil’s Pie is a simple software to change the interfaces and behaviors of some of the rules you have made to certain applications.
Step 1 Download and install the software:
sudo apt-get install devilspie
Step 2 create configuration file for the specific terminal:
mkdir ~/.devilspiegedit ~/.devilspie/DesktopConsole.ds
If you use RedHat, there is rpm installation package and as for Debian, there is also deb install package. Either rpm or deb, it is like msi execution installation package for Windows users. It creates a convenient user friendly straight forward method to install application and you do not need to worry about any library independencies or console command to go through.
But, the problem is sometimes we found rpm package from internet and we want to install it on our Debian system. How to install?
Actually just through a simple application called Alien. What Alien do is more than that, it can converts in between package like Stampede slp, Slackware tgz, and Solaris pkg file formats.

What is Gnome? How important is it? I think most of the newbies out there most likely share the same question. Like Windows Manager in Windows 95 or Explorer in Windoes XP, Gnome react like a windows manager in Linux.
Of course, it does not monopoly in the open source world. There is another popular windows manager in Linux world called KDE. The different of Gnome and KDE is they are using different graphics library. KDE is using Qt+ while Gnome is using GTK+. So, if you are using KDE, you are cannot use application that is developed in GTK+, vice versa. Hopefully my short explanation help you a lot.

On Linux, we don’t have Windows Messenger Live, ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger or any other instant messengers we commonly used on Windows OS. But, we do have Pidgin which combined everything in to one. In my opinion, it is not the greatest compared to the original application, however, it has done an excellent job by combining all of the IM into just one application.
With Pidgin, I do not need to worry I could not chat with my friends on different IM. For the latest version of 2.2.0, it includes new IM - MySpaceIM.
Below are some of the changelog on Pidgin 2.2.0:
I admit Adobe Reader is not the greatest PDF reader, at least on Windows, it sucks. It take quite a longer loading time and weight heavily. However, they are the creator of PDF standard and they are now landing Adobe Reader 8 on Linux platform.
Visit their site Adobe today to downloa d it. It provides package like rpm, deb, bz2 and tar.gz. I will also look for more better PDF reader or any tweak.
